A few hours passed.
Then he came home.
But when he walked through the door—
his family was already mourning him.
Because to them…
he had been gone for three months.
He left home at ten in the morning. By three in the afternoon, he thought he was back from an ordinary trip. But when he walked through the door, his family was crying because of them. He had not been gone for a few hours. He had been missing for three months. Today's story is about a man at a mountain in Indonesia and a stretch of lost time that still doesn't make sense.
SPEAKER_01Welcome back. Tell me the Crown. Episode nine, I believe. I believe.

SPEAKER_01Ninth, yeah. Ninth planet. Oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah. This is time flies so fast. Yeah. But we have been doing it for nine weeks in a row now, which is awesome. So well, aside from that one time that I screwed up and missed one week and then had to double up. We're good, yeah. We're doubled up. We're caught up. So, okay. Um, so tell me about this quote unquote crime because he said it's not quite a crime. You weren't even sure if you wanted to do it because you said I don't think. I gave him a hand.
SPEAKER_00I gave him a hand. This is not a crime.
SPEAKER_01It's kind of like a horror, she says. So I was I was thinking, like, okay, well, yeah, like just do it. Let's hear what it is. What's uh what's the what's the um horror slash not crime? Let's hear it.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so the title is Lost for Hours, Missing for Three Months.
SPEAKER_01Ooh, okay.
SPEAKER_00What will be your guess from my title?
SPEAKER_01Law Lost for Three Hours, Missing for Three. Three months. Three months, okay. Huh. That uh I mean, maybe a little kid got like went missing after And then found after three months? Yeah. Maybe like the parents, like I don't freaking know. Like who fucking knows? Let's start. Give me some more hints.
SPEAKER_00The hint is uh the setting of this story is in one of the beautiful mountains in a tropical place.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Beautiful mountains in a tropical place. That that is not a hint. That doesn't tell me shit.
SPEAKER_00Hey, I I always give you the best cues. You do, you really do. The clearest cues.
SPEAKER_01Okay. So that that's that's a super clear one, ladies and gentlemen. Let's uh let's let's hear what else you got for me.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so um the setting is in Mount Salak.
SPEAKER_01Mount Salak. Is this like another is this an Indonesian?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I did not tell him about it.
SPEAKER_01No. How do you know? It sounds Indonesian.
SPEAKER_00How do you know? Well, how are you speaking Indonesian?
SPEAKER_01It's weird, right? I I'm it's almost like I have a wife who is Indonesian. Weird that I would recognize sounds and names that are Indonesian.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Uh actually salak is uh the name of fruit. Translated into English. I think it's snake fruit. Have you ever got one?
SPEAKER_01I think I actually have. I can't remember what it is though. I've had a lot of exotic fruits, just like because I always try new shit, you know?
SPEAKER_00I don't think you ever have the snake fruit. No, it sounds what does it look like? Not drag not dragon fruit. Okay, it's completely different from there.
SPEAKER_01Okay, okay. Well they're both kind of reptiles, right?
SPEAKER_00I know, you always play that, like you associate something with whatever cue that I gave you before and all. Exactly.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_00Those uh those two kinds of fruit they're super different.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Alright. So the uh setting is Mount Salad. Um the mountain where people usually go hiking. That's just one of the sides, so it's very beautiful.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_00I've never done that because I was scared of doing this kind of challenge, you know, go hiking in a mountain. Okay.
SPEAKER_01Hiking in a mountain, that sounds fun to me though.
SPEAKER_00Oh, you're gonna try it. I'm not gonna join, thank you.
SPEAKER_01Okay, okay. You'll be down on the beach somewhere.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Well, I did it once, uh actually. But it's not that this kind of long, long trail, because in Indonesia, if you go hiking, you can go miles and uh people do hiking for days.
SPEAKER_01Oh, now I understand what the three hour or like the couple hours to to 30 days. Well, going the wrong path up a mountain, uh you probably you know go three hours in the wrong direction and then you end up three months lost. I mean, that's we'll see. Okay. Okay, we'll see.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Um, so this the story today, it is not about violence, I think.
SPEAKER_01At least it's not about violence, okay.
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm. Um, this is about a guy named Edo.
SPEAKER_01Edo.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00So he was in his early twenties. Um, he was living around Bogor in Indonesia. So Bogor is in West Java.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_00Okay. And at that time, he had just gone through a breakup. Okay. Um, so for him, it was a huge thing, and he said that it's not like a casual breakup because this person was somebody that he had been with for years.
SPEAKER_01Right, okay. So he he it didn't happen. Like it he didn't expect it? Is that what you're gonna do?
SPEAKER_00He did not he did not expect it. Now, because he had that breakup, um, he was very depressed, um, he was mentally unstable, and maybe he was not thinking clearly, right? So what do you think if someone is in that state, what would the person usually do? If the person is in that kind of situation, like in a you know, you you just had um Oh, you just have like a really bad break.
SPEAKER_01I mean you're you're gonna get a pretty bad mind mind space or mental headspace. So it's and you want to escape, right? You want to escape, of course. So going up a mountain alone on a trip actually sounds probably pretty nice in that mindset.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so that's what he was actually doing. Uh he's already not in a good state, and then he decided to go back to a place that he remembered from when he was younger. Um, there is this waterfall, the waterfall trail near Mount Salak.
SPEAKER_01The problem is though, is when you're when you're in a really bad mental headspace, your decision-making skills are kind of uh heading. 10 out of 10. Yep, you got it. Always do it, guys. Go run off into the dark and dark alleys, you know, everything. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Is that a guy's thing?
SPEAKER_01No. I mean, no, you just I'm being sarcastic, bro. Like, come on.
SPEAKER_00I don't know. Maybe that's a guy's thing.
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_00Okay, no.
SPEAKER_01No, no, all right, let's hear it.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so he decided to go back to a place that he remembered um that he liked visiting when he was younger, a waterfall trail near Mount Salak. Okay.
SPEAKER_03Yep.
SPEAKER_00And uh because Mount Salak is known for the dense forests, uh the confusing terrain, and it also has a lot of stories about people getting lost.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_00Not just physically lost, but like disoriented in a deeper way.
SPEAKER_01And even the how high is this mountain? Like how is it like a really tall one, or is it like the elevation? Mountains are by definition tall, but you know what I mean.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. The elevation is 2,211 meters, which is 7,000 and something feet. Wow, that's high. That's very high. So do you want to go hiking?
SPEAKER_01Kind of, yeah. Yeah, no, you the pressure change definitely makes people lightheaded and hard to breathe up at that altitude.
SPEAKER_00And this mountain had eruptions several times.
SPEAKER_01Oh, so it's a volcano, not just a mountain. Okay, damn.
SPEAKER_00So how how do you how do you define mountains here? Like it's a mountain is just like a big hill. Yes, just a big hill. It's not that.
SPEAKER_01Mountains are very, very tall hills, right? Essentially. But uh a volcano is is the one that can erupt with like lava and right, like but not every mountain has that, right?
SPEAKER_00So no, that is the uh non-active volcano, but also still high.
SPEAKER_03Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_00Okay. So yeah, he was not in a great state. He wanted to visit his favorite place. Um, and here the location matters, okay?
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_00When he was a teenager, he used to go there with his friends. And on the way to the waterfall, they would pass through a small village. Okay.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_00Now you can imagine if there is this village near the mountain, um, it's usually quiet, and uh the people in the village they probably know each other, but they're usually very friendly, they're very outgoing, they help each other, so that's uh very typical um villagers in Indonesia.
SPEAKER_01Well, you said that that's pretty I mean that like Indonesians in general are a very kind. Yeah, they're just very friendly people, yeah. Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_00They're nice people. Okay. And he remembers something very specific. Okay, so something um sometimes the older man in that village would call out to them, to him and his friends when they were younger, and offer their daughters to walk with them as guides.
SPEAKER_01As guides? Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_00Okay to go hiking in the trail or to go to the waterfall trail.
SPEAKER_01So wait, who was asking the daughters? Wait, what uh sorry, maybe I my age.
SPEAKER_00So the older man, the older man in that village.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_00The older men in that village sometimes talk to them, so him and also his friends. Um and uh they also talk, hey, if you need any help, my daughters can Oh my daughters can.
SPEAKER_01Okay, sorry, I misheard that, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Walk with you and cheese.
SPEAKER_01Right, right, right.
SPEAKER_00They my daughters, they could guide you, basically. Okay?
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But that's uh just random detail anyway. Um that detail though stuck with him. So the story is at that time he just uh had a really bad breakup and uh he wanted to escape and then he wanted to go to the waterfall trail and he remembered that it's this one small village, and uh his memory went back to the older man in that village and all that.
SPEAKER_01With the with the two daughters, yeah. Okay.
SPEAKER_00And after his breakup, he said he didn't want to talk to his male friends anymore because um they would just tell him to move on. You know, it's maybe like the feeling of being judged if I tell people about my situation.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Well, yeah, I mean it gets to a point sometimes where people just get tired of hearing the same story.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's true.
SPEAKER_01Which is unfortunate because it's like the it's not gonna stop the the person from feeling that pain, you know. But they yeah. I I get it though. Sometimes it's just uh yeah, you you can only complain for so long. Yeah. Yeah. Anyway.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so I guess a lot of people probably experience the same thing, um, but like different sources of breakup. And this guy thought maybe talking to someone unfamiliar would feel easier for him.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, definitely. Oh, of course. Right. Well, uh yeah, it's it's it's easier because you won't be judged for anything that you say because you're not gonna know them like you and you probably won't see them again.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_01And then also they wouldn't have heard the story a thousand times. So yeah, they wouldn't get annoyed. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Okay. So he decided to go to that small village, uh, he takes public transportation, and then he walks through the village.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00When he gets there, uh he says that the place looks exactly the same.
SPEAKER_01Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_00Not just similar. He emphasized it, it's exactly the same as uh when he was a teenager. Okay.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00So the same layout, the same atmosphere, the same feeling.
SPEAKER_04Right.
SPEAKER_00Um yeah, I guess it's already weird in itself. I I don't know.
SPEAKER_01I just Well, what about the scene was exactly the same? Did he was it like you know, something eerie where like a you know, a hay a barrel of hay or something or whatever, some twigs were like in a specific f you know um orientation or something that he that just really stood out?
SPEAKER_00No. For him it was more like, oh, I've been here before and I think it's uh just the same thing, like kind of like a deja vu and yeah, like re-experiencing something. Okay, so that's why like everything is exactly the same.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_00Um and then this is where it gets really strange. The older man that he uh uh used to see when he was younger calls out to him and also asks him where he's going. And uh he says that, oh, I'm heading to the waterfall. Okay. So the man offers his daughter to accompany him.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Okay. So I'm not sure if it's real or not real um in terms of seeing that man, and the man offers him and uh tell him that hey, my daughter can accompany you. I don't know, okay, but that's what he shared um anyway. So because time changes places, to him it felt like stepping back into a memory. So as you said, it's probably just deja vu.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, could be, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00And then this is where it gets really, really strange again.
SPEAKER_01Um so so was the I mean, what this old man, it was the same old man. The same old daughter and the same daughter. Well, one of the two daughters. But was I mean, was there anything about them that was the same?
SPEAKER_00Like did was it like You was just thinking that everything was just the same. Like the daughter's age and everything, too.
SPEAKER_01So the daughter's age was apparently the same and the old man was the same. And you'd think that maybe the old man had passed away at that point. Because you were you were a kid, right? Yeah. So okay, okay. Right? Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Um, yeah, same interactions uh with him as well. Instead of questioning, like when you feel something weird, you were like, hey, what's h what's what's going on? Is uh am I dreaming or something, right? But he did not do that, he just accepted it. Like, yeah, you know, like Yeah.
SPEAKER_01That's kind of that's kind of strange too. Exactly. It's turns out exactly the same way, and it's like, wow, I did this exact sequence of events and these exact same conversations. I'd be a little weird. Okay.
SPEAKER_00So he walks with the daughter, and uh this part is very normal, like very human. I give a cute human, okay? So very human.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_00He tells her everything about the breakup, uh how lost he feels, all of it. And she was there and she was just listening, but she did not give any advice, she did not react, she was just listening. Yeah, so it's like you're talking to exactly talking to a wall, yeah. Like you're talking to a wall, but there is somebody that that's listening to you.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, which is sometimes all you need though, right? Like sometimes you just want to be heard, and that's it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but I have to actually tell you something from the Indonesian perspective, like this kind of thing.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_00So if it's in the mountain, um people there believe, well, not all of all all people, but um some people, especially maybe villagers who live uh in a mountain, they believe that mountain is a sacred place.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_00Because it indicates um, you know, they uh probably have some worship or something and associates the place with the highness. Right.
SPEAKER_01Something like that. So is it disrespectful to be speaking or not?
SPEAKER_00No, it's not about the disrespect of speaking to her or to him, but the hint here is he probably was not a human. So from how this daughter reacted when he when uh he was talking to her, yeah, she did not react at all. It's like you have a company, but that company does not act like nothing.
SPEAKER_01So she wasn't acting like a human, you're saying So she's just acting weird as if like she can't hear him or something, or as like a ghost. As like a ghost. Okay. Okay. Okay, okay.
SPEAKER_00Alright, so now the shift. Uh but then he leaves. Okay. So after s um after some time, I don't know how they parted ways, but then he leaves, and then that's when things start to feel off. At first, he just cannot find the path back. So he wanna he he went hiking, and then he put like some trails, you know, to give a sign, okay, I'm gonna go back. Uh yeah, you put some markers on like trees or something like that. But he just cannot find the path back, okay? And then it gets so worse. So the surrounding do not look familiar anymore.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Well, it's it's pretty easy to f get lost in big mountains like that though.
SPEAKER_00And the route doesn't match what he remembers. But usually in um in in a mountain where it offers some hiking trails, they usually have the signs, right? Now this guy, he could not see any signs. And this mountain is where people go hiking. One of the mountains. Okay. So he expected and he and he was there uh before, so he expected to see the common signs as he did hike before.
SPEAKER_01Okay, okay. So he's not like it's his first time.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm. And he says it feels like he's walking, but not really going anywhere.
SPEAKER_01It sounds like the guy was like he ha he he was high or something, you know. Like he's you know, he's potentially like you said, it's not something legal. It could be, right, but I'm not saying it's necessarily drugs. I'm saying I'm saying that it could be that he's up on a mountain and he you know the pressure change and the lack of oxygen to the brain could lead to um hallucinations.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, maybe. Maybe like I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, confusion and and hallucinations.
SPEAKER_00This is based on uh some myth and what people believe, you know.
SPEAKER_03Yep.
SPEAKER_00So I I'm not very sure uh what the real real story and the fact is. Because he, this guy, actually came back and then he told the story to people.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so he could not find uh the path back, and at some point he also sees an old woman sweeping.
SPEAKER_01Sweeping? Like on a mountain.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01That doesn't make any sense. He was definitely hallucinating.

SPEAKER_01I mean, unless it's a ghost, which I don't know. I don't know if I believe in ghosts, but I don't know, I don't I don't rule it out. It's uh it's kind of like one. It's a possibility. I think it's a possibility for sure. But we never know. Like you can never really tell unless you actually see one, and then even then you're like, well, was that just a hallucination? Am I schizophrenic or a real ghost? Exactly. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00So he sees an old woman sweeping on a mountain, and uh he asks her for directions, and she does not really respond normally, just like the daughter. You know? Okay, and she just points, like when you ask me for directions, there babe, there, there.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, oh my god, you're the worst at directions.

SPEAKER_01Where? No, you don't point. You don't point. You're just like over there. Like where is it?
SPEAKER_03Right here.
SPEAKER_01Right here, yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So yeah, no, I I get it though.
SPEAKER_01There's some sort of auditory information that you're getting, right? Like you're you're vocal at least, right? Like no one's gonna just point without saying anything unless they're mute or like yeah, or deaf.
SPEAKER_00This old woman, uh, she did not speak any word, uh, she only pointed to the uh the directions that he could go.
SPEAKER_01But at least she was responding, unlike the person, the girl. That was not responding, yeah. Not doing anything.
SPEAKER_00And then after that, uh, this old woman uh goes back to sweeping again. It's really weird, like sweeping in the mountain.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that doesn't make any sense.
SPEAKER_00But I could I could picture that though in my head. Yeah, me too. Like based on the movies that I have watched, anyway.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's creepy. It does remind me of like a horror film. Like you know, you just walking up a mountain and like the creepy, like like violin background music, and I don't know, like the off-tune kind of anyway.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so he follows the direction that she pointed out anyway, and eventually he uh reaches. Is a road. Um but it's not where it should be.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_00Okay. So he realizes he's in a completely different area than expected, much farther than it should be.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00But he's super tired, he doesn't question it too much, and he just goes home.
SPEAKER_01So how did he get home from there if he didn't know where he was?
SPEAKER_00I have no clue. He was just following the path, he was just following the road. Um and he left around like 10 a.m. Um he gets home around 3 p.m.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00So for him, it's just been about five hours. Yeah. That's based on what he shared, like the story that he shared to people. Okay. He walks into his house and his mom is crying.
SPEAKER_01Mmm, because he's been gone for 30 hours, right? Or was it three days? For five hours. According to him. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And his mom is crying. Um it's like grieving crying, not the real live crying. Yeah. And he was confused, like, why are you crying like that? You know, what's wrong? I'm here, I'm at home. And then she tells him, You've been gone for three months.
SPEAKER_01Whoa. Three months?
SPEAKER_00Yes, you've been gone for three months.
SPEAKER_01I thought you okay, I I was misremembering. I thought you said three days or something. Three months.
SPEAKER_00Three months. Wow. So his family thought that he was dead.
SPEAKER_01Holy shit.
SPEAKER_00But he just came back home and uh he thought that why?
SPEAKER_01How did he survive that long if if like that's the thing, right? If he was actually gone for three months, yeah. Where like how is he eating and getting you know, getting water and all that? Like that's huh.
SPEAKER_00This is something though, um about the myth.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_00Um I'm not sure there are a lot of versions of the myth, but mountain is something that's uh a place that's very sacred. And um some other hikers also had the experience of getting lost and just going around and around and around in the mountain. Um, and um one of the reasons that they admit it was they did something inappropriate. The examples, okay? So that is this group of hikers that um so one of them took an alcohol. Okay, because of the belief in in that place, they thought that oh, if I take an alcohol, then the gardens, the guardians?
SPEAKER_01The gardens of what?
SPEAKER_00The guardians, the guardians of the country.
SPEAKER_01Oh, the guardians, oh okay, the guardians.
SPEAKER_00The guardians of the mountains.
SPEAKER_01Oh, so they're taking like alcohol to the guardians as like a gift or something?
SPEAKER_00No, they just they drink the alcohol, they they drink it, um, but according to their beliefs, it's you know, alcohol is something restricted.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Like the society believes you you don't get drunk, basically. Right?
SPEAKER_01Really?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Oh, in in like Indonesia in general?
SPEAKER_00Not in general, but like in villages like that.
SPEAKER_01Oh, damn. Okay. Yeah. Good to know. Good to know. I'm gonna go there and get wasted, and people are gonna be like, what the hell's wrong with this guy?
SPEAKER_00Exactly. But that's an example from this group of hikers, okay? So um one of them just took an alcohol and they said that they did not do anything appropriate, and then they got the consequence in the mountain. So, for example, they got stranded by whatever superpower that they thought because of that.
SPEAKER_01Because like some spirits were punishing them or something, right? So, yeah, so according to the spirits, they broke some rules, and because of that, they're being punished. So, can that be the crime in this story? Right? Yeah, like maybe, maybe.
SPEAKER_00Like between human and non-humans, I don't know. Yeah, yeah. And another example is um, so I I don't know if I can give this example.
SPEAKER_01Okay, let's hear it. Let's hear it anyway. I want to hear it. Um can't tell the uh listeners that and then not say it.
SPEAKER_00Uh how do I frame it?
SPEAKER_01Spit it out, bro. Let's hear it.
SPEAKER_00Okay, boys and girls relationship, for example, right? You cannot you cannot kiss your partner in public. Something like that. Okay.
SPEAKER_03Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_00Or you cannot do something wrong in in that setting. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Because it also You can have sex, is that what you're trying to avoid saying? Like, I feel like you're trying to avoid saying like sex or like penis or something like that. I'm like, dude, like oh babe, that doesn't exist. Right. Let's talk about only things that are PG, right? We're on a fucking crime podcast, bro. Like, people are gonna be okay with it.
SPEAKER_00Okay, yeah. Yes, something like that. Okay. So that would be considered like uh breaking the rules in that sacred place anywhere. Okay. So the spirit will be really angry with them and you know, all that. So they will reset the consequences. Um a related story to this one, too, by a group of hikers who also got lost. They were experiencing listening to the traditional music from the ancient kingdom in Indonesia. Okay, I saw like the old ladies sweeping and they were dancing, kind of thing, like in the mountain, you know?
SPEAKER_01Interesting.
SPEAKER_00So there's that kind of thing. Um I'm a little bit scared of uh telling them how it's gonna not go out of this room without you into this.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, well, right before we started this podcast. I love that I just like rot you out as soon as we start this, but no, she was in the kitchen and you're like, babe, talk to me, okay? Because like you were alone in the kitchen after reading this story right out there, and I was like, okay, what is this? Yeah, well you and your ghosts. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I don't know. Uh we have the term called mrinding.
SPEAKER_01Mrinding?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's like you got the goosebum. Ah, but you cannot tell why. But you you kind of like feel, oh, somebody's watching you. Oh, yeah, I know what you mean.
SPEAKER_01I know what you mean. When that I think there's a the saying is like when your hair stands up on your neck or something.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And remember the time when I was in the kitchen and you were working upstairs and I was cooking.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00And suddenly the uh TV on?
SPEAKER_01That was creepy, actually. I I was like, Was that creepy or not?
SPEAKER_00I was terrified. I thought you went down because I was listening to the city.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because you started calling me and I was like, What? What? And you're like, oh, like, did you I can't remember what you said, but it was something like, oh did you switch on the TV?
SPEAKER_00I was yelling at you because sometimes you don't think that's the one.
SPEAKER_01I thought you were downstairs listening to the TV, and I was like, okay, well, like what's going on? And yeah, no, it just switched on. I heard it, I heard it switch on too.
SPEAKER_00It just switched on, and then you went down, and then we met right in front of the uh stairs, um, and we can see that TV from that. But and it just switched off.
SPEAKER_01But the thing, yeah, I know that was actually bad. That was creepy too. That that part that it just switched off, but you know, it could just be some random frequency that was like from some controller, some phone or something that just like bounced off of another, you know, building or who knows, like it could just be something, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because you would not just go down and sit in front of the TV without you know talking to me usually. Yeah. Like he wasn't.
SPEAKER_01Because I need permission, guys, because she doesn't allow me to watch TV without her.
SPEAKER_00No, no, no, no, that's not real. No, I know. No, so I was very surprised. But yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Okay. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Going back to that scope. Going back to the scope. There is the myth. Okay. Um, not sure if it involves some kind of crime between human and non-human, but some people have the belief you have to respect the place where you are. You have to to be a human, you know, you don't throw um. Yeah, you don't be disrespectful. Right. Exactly. Yeah. You respect the nature. That's basically it. You know, you respect the nature in every way. So if you go camping, you have to be responsible for your maybe that's actually the moral values of that, but I don't know how people could get the consequence of that supernatural.
SPEAKER_01Right. So was so is what you're getting at then this idea that he went missing for a long time and people speculated that he might have done something wrong and he was punished for it by some spirits or something. And like, is that what people are getting at?
SPEAKER_00Well, people are getting at is uh they really didn't know what happened to him. They did not get any news, but they knew that oh yeah, he probably went somewhere with his friends because he didn't tell anybody, right, about the breakup yet. Yeah. So he probably was just trying to escape for a little bit. But I had no clue how he could survive for those three months because in his mind it's not three months, it's just a couple hours.
SPEAKER_01But here's here's gonna be the me playing devil's advocate and just then trying to trying to give rational explanation. Yeah, yeah. I want I want you to do to do that. Here's actually where it could be. Like, I'm just gonna make up something, right? But um it could be like here's where a crime could come in, right? Like, let's say that it's actually probably more likely that he just fell and hit his head, but um because like if you fall and you hit your head, or someone comes up behind you and smacks you on the head with a giant log or something, maybe that's what happened to all these people, right? So some criminal. No, I don't actually believe that, but maybe they just knocked their head, fell down, hit their head on a rock or something.
SPEAKER_03Like for the colour.
SPEAKER_01Get disoriented. But if it's a really bad concussion and you just don't, you like lose your memory for a chunk of time.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Right? Like you just you don't recover that memory for a a a period of time, right? And and you might think it's only been a few hours, but really it's been several days, right? Um, it's like when we were watching that show earlier today, and the the girl woke up and they were like, Oh yeah, you had a spill, and like, you know, you you lost some memory, like that happens, right? So it's possible, but um, and then maybe when he he was just disoriented, like seeing all those people and stuff, he was probably tripping balls.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, maybe, maybe, you know, yeah, I so I want you actually to kind of watch an indoor horror to see yeah. Well, hey, I want to be it's not about the horror story or it's not about the ghost, but kind of the myths and the belief why no, I'm very I'm very interested in that. I'm very interested in it. That would be hearing that. That would be interesting, for sure. But I will not watch such movie myself.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I know. You get you get pretty terrified.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01It's like, hey babe, do you need to go pee? Are you asking me to walk you to the bathroom?
SPEAKER_00That's my hint.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's my hint. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so to summarize the story, um a man goes to a man goes to Mount Salak after a breakup. He believes he's gone for five hours. Or for three hours. His family says he was gone for three months, and there is no way to reconcile those two timelines. So maybe he got lost. Maybe his mind protected him.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, maybe. Maybe something really traumatic happened, right? Like maybe he doesn't want to remember the time that he lost. People, you know, develop these uh, you know, the these mental barriers for themselves when things are super traumatic, right? You talk about like recovered memories and stuff from childhood when people have like really serious abuse as a child, like that, you know, maybe who knows, maybe he he experienced something really, really horrifying that he doesn't want to remember. So his brain is like protecting him.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Or maybe like this kind of story because the previous uh group of hikers also experienced the same thing, um, and then they share the story, and uh people start visualizing this. Uh the story about maybe the sound from the traditional kingdom or the people who look like knights, you know, all that. So each one of the people who heard about the story, they kind of got the visualizations for who or what um are there in the mountains and some kind of wild imaginations, I would say. So people then, oh yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, it's kind of like forming the belief because one says something and you listen to that and you also you confirm that belief. So then, oh yeah, that's happened to me.
SPEAKER_01Well, we tend to remember, yeah, we remember the things too that conform to our beliefs, right? We we do have those those confirmation biases in our memories, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah, so that is kind of like the unique story, I think.
SPEAKER_01Well, thank you. Yeah, I mean, I yeah, you you said like, oh, it's kind of like a horror, but not like uh not like a crime, and I'm like okay, but there could be elements of crime. You never know, right? Like we we could say that maybe he got attacked or he got, you know, something really traumatic happened to him. Um or he got punished, and it wasn't actually spirits, it was uh people in the community that thought he was being disrespectful. Or like who knows, right? So, well, at least that's my my explanation to stretch it into a crime. So that's that's what that's what we're doing today, everyone, uh for Tell Me the Crime. Stretching it to a crime. Yes.
